Amazon and Barnes & Noble Love Me

I read about 50 books in 2008, most nonfiction as I have been very busy with real estate and Internet marketing consulting, Here are my top 4 recommendations.

My Stroke of Insight by Jill Bolte Taylor

This is the only book I have ever read that I feel everyone should read. Medical professionals can gain extraordianry insight into a patient’s experience. Chances are each of us will either have a stroke or know someone who does. This book  provides invaluable insight into what happens and how we can improve our chances of full recovery. Those with an interest in spiritual development or metaphysics will find her experiences enthralling.

The 4-Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss

This book opened my eyes to possibilities I had never thought of. If you are looking to change direction in your career or lifestyle, this book is a must read.

The Unfolding Now by A.H. Almaas

I’m a little biased, being in the Ridhwan School, but this book provides great practical insight into the barriers and challenges of developing the capacity to live in the Now.

Upgrade Your Life by Gina Trapani

Invaluable for anyone who owns a computer. Simple and valuable tips for improving your knowledge, functioning and capacity. Easy to read and understand. Get over technophobia and increase productivity.

    From 2007

The New Rules of Marketing & PR by David Meerman Scott

I’ve given at least 6 copies of this book to friends and clients. If you have any interest in how to leverage the Internet to promote your business, career or product – this should be the first book on your list.

  • Spiritual Light

Spiritual-lightSpiritual Light, the Light of God, Universal Light – on the spiritual path, search or journey, we hear many things about spiritual light.

It seems that light is part of the fundamental nature of the manifested. Some paths say sound (OM). You could argue both in the form of vibration arise simultaneously as the first arising out of the Absolute or Non-Being.

In his new book – The Unfolding Now, A.H. Almaas has a chapter titled – Lighting Up the Now (free download). This chapter explores some of the ramifications of light as our basic nature.

From the Big Bang to Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, Almaas asks us to consider the implications of being a Being of Light. What does that mean in terms of time? What about the body?

Spiritual light isn’t something we go from here to there to find. Spiritual light is what is actually here appearing to our senses as material form.

Jill Bolte Taylor discovered this when she had her stroke.

  • Universal Consciousness

ConsciousnesRumors and reports from the front lines abound around universal consciousness. And yet, a quick glance into the daily world, the newspaper, the blogosphere or a few minutes on Bill O’Reilly or the Huffington Post reveals universal unconscious still reigns supreme in the hearts and minds of the masses.

Most people think they are conscious. Even if you define being conscious as being awake or merely aware, most mystics would still proclaim that the conscious masses are still, unfortunately, unconscious.

I was in Barnes & Noble the other day and saw Jill Bolte-Taylor’s book – My Stroke of Insight. I ordered it today from Amazon. Ms. Bolte-Taylor probably has a few things to say on the subject of consciousness that might interest me.

It’s been a long while since I read anything by J Krishnamurti, but I still hold his inquiry into violence close to my heart:

When you call yourself an Indian or a Muslim or a Christian or a European, or anything else, you are being violent. Do you see why it is violent? Because you are separating yourself from the rest of mankind. When you separate yourself by belief, by nationality, by tradition, it breeds violence. So a man who is seeking to understand violence does not belong to any country, to any religion, to any political party or partial system; he is concerned with the total understanding of mankind.

When it comes to exploring consciousness and universal consciousness, the same open and open-ended inquiry needs to be engaged. It’s a bit more challenging though than lettin go of your country or religion or any particualr piece of identity because when it comes to the exploration of consciousness the whole enchilada will be challenged at levels we hold near and dear.

Can a catchy t-shirt help raise consciousness or universal conscioiusness? What say you?

  • Stroke of Genius

This is a video that is worth every minute of your time and more. It is a must see for those who have an interest in the Eckhart Tolle – Oprah online presentations and all others interested in spiritual development. What is not addressed in this video is how one’s being can synthesize these two selfs into a real integrated, functioning person.

Brain researcher Jill Bolte Taylor studied her own stroke as it happened.
